Delta Sigma Theta and Community Partners to hold Political Forum

BROWARD COUNTY, FL - The South Broward Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated and eight local community partners will hold a Political Forum on Thursday, August 11, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Broward College-South Campus, 7200 Pines Blvd, in Pembroke Pines, in an effort to reach out to South Broward County residents and educate them on candidates running for political office.  The forum will be held in the Performing Cultural Arts Theatre (PCAT), Building 68B.

The Political Forum is open to the public and residents are encouraged to attend and learn more about candidates running for Broward County Sheriff; Broward County School Board, District 2; Broward County Commission, District 5; and County Court Judge, Group 7.  A candidate Meet & Greet will be held from 5 – 5:45 p.m. and the Political Forum will be held from 6 - 8:30 p.m.  Attendees will be permitted to submit questions via the moderator to candidates during a panel discussion.  Time permitting other candidates in attendees will have an opportunity to introduce themselves.

As 2016 is a major election year, this forum is designed to highlight the issues important to Broward County constituents.  With grant funds allocated from the Delta Research Educational Foundation, South Broward Alumnae will also be transporting eligible voters to the polls in November.  We invited a host of community partners to join us this year to be a part of this informative community event.  Through our collaboration we anticipate our efforts will increase the number of educated voters at the polls,” said Cassandra Joseph, President of South Broward Alumnae.

The community organizations partnering with the sorority to present this year’s Political Forum, include T.J. Reddick Bar Association; 100 Black Men of Greater Fort Lauderdale; League of Women Voters of Broward County, FL; Black Lives Matter Alliance of Broward County; Urban League of Broward County, Young Professionals Network; Broward Council of the National PanHellenic Council and the National Black MBA Association, Inc.-South Florida Chapter.

Yolanda Cash Jackson, Esq., Shareholder of Becker & Poliakoff and also a member of Delta Sigma Theta, will serve as the Moderator of the political forum.  Attorney Jackson has established a strong reputation in the community for her leadership and commitment to civic, charitable and professional organizations.
